Default No Cookie is a simple hack which changes the default button on Cookie Alert dialogs in Netscape Navigator 3.0 or later from "Yes" to "No". This allows rejection of receipt of cookies to be accomplished by merely pressing the Return button on your Macintosh, with no need to reach for the mouse. Of course, you still have the option of accepting cookies by clicking the "Yes" button.
If you are uncomfortable using ResEdit, this is not for you.
To install Default No Cookie, hereafter referred to as DNC, double click the DNC icon to start ResEdit. Using the File Open… menu item in ResEdit, also open a copy of Netscape Navigator. If you are confidant in what you're doing, you can work directly on your Netscape file as long as it is not up and running. Click in the DNC window and select both items (the ALRT and DITL). Select Copy from the Edit menu. Click in the Netscape window and select Paste from the Edit menu. A dialog box will come up asking if you want to replace items with the same ID or create unique IDs. Select Replace, save your altered Netscape file and quit out of ResEdit. You are now done with ResEdit. If you have not already done it, you also need to set the Netscape preference to show the alert when cookies are sent. Piece of cake - start Netscape, select Network Preferences under the Option menu, click on the Protocols tab, and select "Show and alert before accepting a cookie".
